I’ve been meaning to create this blog for a while.

Originally, I had intended this to be a podcast; the thought occurred to me as a way to keep myself from running too fast on easy runs – if I have to talk while running, I’ll slow down, right?  And aside from the occasional run with my lovely and talented wife, I don’t really ever run with others, what with the whole vagabond nomad thing going on.  So, a microphone seemed the perfect companion.  I’d talk to myself while wandering the streets, keep my pace to what wouldn’t just sound like an erotic phone call, do a little editing when I got back, and viola; podcast!

Wrong.  By the end of my first run recording in to a headset to my Blackberry I managed to break said headset.  Plus, it sounds like an erotic phone call anyway.  An erotic phone call from a person with a head cold.  Nobody wants to hear that.  Hell; I couldn’t listen to much of it.  So away that idea went.

I let the site sit idle for a while, not sure if I wanted to do anything with it, but I’ve finally decided that yes, I did.  My wife and I maintain2 a sort of travel blog over at and I don’t like co-opting that platform to write about running, plus I’ve been getting a bit too in to this whole online running community not to toss my unsolicited opinions in to the ring.

Plus, since I RV full time and am never in the same place for more than a couple of months, I get to run in all different areas, which is wicked fun and I suppose somewhat unique, so I’d like to share that with y’all3.

From what I can see, most people start a running blog to “chronicle their training for …insert big event in their future here…” and/or to “chronicle their weight loss journey” or something along those lines.  I’m doing neither.  I’ve been running for a couple months shy of three years as of this post, am for the most part comfortable with my weight, and am pretty much as far from the starting point of a race training cycle as one can be… two days from marathon number seven4

Yup, I’m running the Kentucky Derby Marathon in two days.  More about that later, when I’ve hit the expo and have some silly photos and pre-race thoughts to share.

In theory, posting here will help prevent me from rambling about running to people who have no interest.  And maybe reduce the length of my DailyMile posts.  So, yeah, in summary, I’m starting this blog because I like to ramble.  In so many ways; on foot, vehicularly, and, yes, in a desultory or long-winded wandering fashion.

I hope you enjoy it!

  3. See how I just used “wicked” and “y’all” in the same sentence?  That’s an example of how RVing can shatter your ability to communicate with normal humans.
